Our team has many years of experience in the insurance industry, the majority having previously worked either as brokers or underwriters in the London and / or overseas insurance markets.
THE MIB BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Derek Ford Derek was appointed Chairman of MIB on the establishment of the company in March 1999. Prior to this he was employed by the Sedgwick Group for 41 years. He held senior positions in the International Energy, and Energy and Marine companies. He was Chairman of Sedgwick Energy Limited and up to his retirement he was Chief Executive of Sedgwick Energy and Marine Limited. During his long and distinguished career Derek has been a frequent visitor to the Middle East and Asia, where he was retained by many of the leading businesses as advisor and broker. |
Mehran Eftekhar Mehran is a UK Qualified Chartered Accountant with 30 years of experience in both professional firms and the insurance industry. |
Professor Gerry Dickinson Gerry has been non-executive director at MIB since 2004. Gerry is Professor of International Insurance and was formerly Director for the Centre for Insurance & Investment Studies at City University Business School. Previously he was a B.I.A. Research Fellow at the University of Sussex and Assistant then Associate Professor of Finance in the Faculty of Commerce at the University of British Columbia. Prior to taking up this role he was AIG Visiting Professor of International Insurance at the American Graduate School of International Business at the University of Arizona. Gerry’s other activities also include Vice Secretary and Head of Insurance and Finance Research at The Geneva Association and he is consultant to the European Commission, OECD, World Bank on insurance industry issues. He is also the author of 5 monographs and 90 articles in the areas of finance, risk management, investment and corporate strategy in insurance. |
Mike Lewis Contact Mike rejoined MIB in November 2007 as Chief Executive Officer, having originally been instrumental in establishing the company. He brings with him a wealth of experience in energy and property risks. Mike has worked in the insurance and reinsurance industry since 1978. This has included employment at Royal Insurance Group, 15 years at Sedgwick Group Plc and most recently as a consultant to the energy industry whilst with HSBC. He has considerable experience in respect of oil, gas and petrochemical, energy and power generation and affinity business particularly in the UK, the Middle East, Asia, West Africa and Indian sub-continent. Mike has worked in a number of roles during his career including Development Underwriter, Broking Director responsible for all Middle East business operations in the London market, Market Development and Risk Management Consultant. He has also been responsible for a number of senior management initiatives in his varying roles including Company Creation, the Design/Implementation of management plans and the successful Restructuring and Relaunch of existing businesses. Mike is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. |
Simon Radford Contact Simon is responsible for the development, negotiation and placement of a comprehensive and varied range of reinsurance solutions for MIB’s clients. |
Trevor Watts Contact Trevor is responsible for Financial Management and Accounting and all other aspects within the Finance and Administration Department at MIB. He also oversees Human Resources and Information Technology issues and is responsible for ensuring our compliance under the various regulatory bodies that oversee our operations. Trevor has been in the insurance industry since 1989 and is an experienced Financial Accountant, having worked with other UK and International Lloyds Brokers prior to joining MIB in 2005. During this time Trevor has acquired an extensive knowledge of accounting matters related to insurance and reinsurance business. |
Nigel Piers Contact Nigel’s role at MIB is Director of complex and innovative projects. His specialist areas include aviation, energy and mining, industrial and commercial property, life, personal accident and medical covers, marine and professional risks. |
Paige Thomson Contact Paige is our frontline broker and has worked in the London Market since 1990 and joined MIB in March 2001. He is experienced in the design and placing of treaty reinsurance programmes and individual facultative placements for a wide range of insurance classes including banks and financial institutions, industrial and commercial property, life, personal and medical covers, travel insurance schemes and professional risks. Paige has been closely involved in business emanating from the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Eastern Europe throughout his career. |
Dr Marcel Steward Contact Marcel’s focus is to champion the development of the environmental practice within MIB. He provides strategic advice to national and international businesses in regard to the management of environmental risk and the use of environmental insurance and other finance structures in mitigating the financial impact of these risks. Marcel is a qualified geologist and became one of the first environmental consultants and later the first specialist environmental risk manager and insurance broker when that market opened in Europe in the early 1990’s. He has held senior positions in most of the Major Broking Houses as Head of Environment for Europe and Head of the Environment (Europe) in the Merger and Acquisition units. As an environmental risk management consultant and specialist insurance broker, Marcel has acted on some of the largest projects that have been undertaken in the UK / Europe and internationally. As acting CEO of a not for profit company, Marcel led the first UK Business Delegation into Libya with similar missions into Egypt and India. |
Richard Pearson Contact Richard is establishing our first overseas development unit. He has wide ranging insurance experience including construction, aviation, marine, energy and financial institution risks. Richard is an industry professional with over 30 years experience in a largely international environment covering broking, insurance company and risk management functions. Richard has a strong and successful track record in business development across all classes of business with a concentration in the growing/developing markets of both the Middle East and the Asia Pacific regions. Richard’s recent career includes senior appointments with major Lloyds brokers, HSBC, Jardine Lloyd Thompson and Sedgwick Group. |
Sarah Shousha Contact Sarah is a fluent Arabic and French business developer and welcomes Arabic and French speaking businesses to contact her in order to discuss how MIB can help them meet their business goals. She joined MIB to work in business development in March 2008. Her work focuses on the planning, development and implementation of new business activities and finding new market solutions for our Clients. Her work entails enhancing, developing and maintaining the company’s business systems and processes in order to ensure that we deliver exceptional client service. She is involved in the placement of reinsurance business in the London and international markets. Sarah has previously held a variety of finance positions in the public and private sector in London. Prior to joining MIB she was a Financial Control Manager at the Export Credits Guarantee Department. |
Caroline Fuller Contact Caroline heads MIB’s Technical Team and is responsible for the running and overseeing of all technical insurance issues. Caroline has worked in the London Insurance Market since 1997, having worked in an international broking house before joining MIB in October 2000. During Caroline’s time with the company she has had extensive involvement in all aspects of MIB business. As well as being responsible for the Technical Department she is also involved in various broking and productions matters. She is also responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all London Market Initiatives, included Market Reform Contracts, Electronic Claims Files and Accounting and Settlement. |
Stephanie Terry Contact Stephanie’s role is to assist the Broking Team in producing placing slips and cover notes. She is also responsible for processing technical treaty accounts, premiums and premium adjustments and monitoring the receipt of accounts and payments. Stephanie has a vast experience of all technical aspects of broker back-up and reinsurance treaty account processing. Stephanie has worked in the reinsurance industry for nearly thirty years. She previously worked for two major London reinsurance brokers, dealing with both international and Lloyd’s clients, before joining MIB in 2007. |
Jay Dodson Contact Jay brings his extensive knowledge of claims management and data analysis/management information to his role at MIB to ensure the efficient running of claims within the technical department. Jay worked within the banking industry before transferring to the insurance industry in 2005. In banking he worked for a major international bank in data analysis and management information where his remit related to the Design, Development and Implementation of databases and spreadsheets to capture and analyse information for management. Within the insurance industry he worked for the largest UK insurer in commercial property claims where his remit related to the management of material, pecuniary and travel claims for a major international client. Additionally, throughout his comparatively short but eventful career he has attained numerous prominent professional qualifications relating to information technology and insurance. |
Laura Midgley Contact Laura’s responsibilities at MIB include the management of the collection and payment of premiums/claims, from clients/underwriters, ensuring that they are collected and paid in a timely manner. Laura is involved in all other areas of the Finance Department and has considerable experience in cash management. Laura also assists the Finance Director with Human Resources, Information Technology and Compliance issues. Laura has worked in the finance sector of the insurance industry since 2005 following her degree in Accounting with Finance at Portsmouth University. |
Sally Abou-El-Seoud Contact Sally is responsible for day to day office administration at MIB as well as being Personal Assistant for the CEO. Sally also supports the Finance Director as well as the broking and technical teams as required. |
