MEET THE TEAM Our team has many years of experience in the insurance industry, the majority having previously worked either as brokers or underwriters in the London and / or overseas insurance markets.
|
Prior to this he was employed by the Sedgwick Group for 41 years. He held senior positions in the International Energy, and Energy and Marine companies. He was Chairman of Sedgwick Energy Limited and up to his retirement he was Chief Executive of Sedgwick Energy and Marine Limited. During his long and distinguished career Derek has been a frequent visitor to the Middle East and Asia, where he was retained by many of the leading businesses as advisor and broker. |
Derek was appointed Chairman of MIB on the establishment of the company in March 1999.
Mehran Eftekhar, Group Finance Director
Mehran is a UK Qualified Chartered Accountant with 30 years of experience in both professional firms and the insurance industry. |
Mehran has held the role of Group Finance Director of the Nest Group of Companies (the ultimate parent of MIB) since 1995. Prof. Derek Atkins

He has co-authored eleven books on risk management and insurance including Reputational Risk: A Question of Trust .He has been a member of two UK governmental working groups on Risk related issues and is a recipient of the CII Exceptional Service Medal for contribution to the industry. Derek is also Chairman of the Risk Committee of Trust Re, Bahrain |
Derek is a chartered engineer, fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and formerly UK Strategy Director for Royal & Sun Alliance. With over 30 years practical experience of the international insurance industry in risk management, underwriting and corporate functions, he now teaches strategy on the Cass Business School MSc. course and runs in-house management development courses for insurers. Hugh joined the Board of MIB in 2009. Hugh is an experienced corporate and commercial Solicitor with international insurance industry focus since 1984, including Lloyd’s and London Company market, acting for underwriters and brokers. Hugh is principal of his own specialist firm, CityNet Law. Prior to establishing CityNet Law in May 2006, Hugh was a partner for 19 years, 10 years with Eversheds LLP (1996-2006) and 9 years with the niche insurance firm of Waltons & Morse (1987-1996). Hugh trained with Allen & Overy and was educated at St Catharine`s College Cambridge. Hugh has two other current non-executive directorships in the London market and was on the Board of Trust International and Reinsurance Company in Bahrain, a related company of MIB, for 3 years from 2006. |
Mike Lewis, Chief Executive Officer

Mike has worked in the insurance and reinsurance industry since 1978. This has included employment at Royal Insurance Group, 15 years at Sedgwick Group Plc and most recently as a consultant to the energy industry whilst with HSBC. He has considerable experience in respect of oil, gas and petrochemical, energy and power generation and affinity business particularly in the UK, the Middle East, Asia, West Africa and Indian sub-continent. Mike has worked in a number of roles during his career including Development Underwriter, Broking Director responsible for all Middle East business operations in the London market, Market Development and Risk Management Consultant. He has also been responsible for a number of senior management initiatives in his varying roles including Company Creation, the Design/Implementation of management plans and the successful Restructuring and Relaunch of existing businesses. Mike is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute. |
Mike rejoined MIB in November 2007 as Chief Executive Officer, having originally been instrumental in establishing the company. He brings with him a wealth of experience in energy and property risks. Simon Radford, Managing Director of Operations

Dr Marcel Steward, Director-Environment

He provides strategic advice to national and international businesses in regard to the management of environmental risk and the use of environmental insurance and other finance structures in mitigating the financial impact of these risks. Marcel is a qualified geologist and became one of the first environmental consultants and later the first specialist environmental risk manager and insurance broker when that market opened in Europe in the early 1990’s. He has held senior positions in most of the Major Broking Houses as Head of Environment for Europe and Head of the Environment (Europe) in the Merger and Acquisition units. As an environmental risk management consultant and specialist insurance broker, Marcel has acted on some of the largest projects that have been undertaken in the UK / Europe and internationally. As acting CEO of a not for profit company, Marcel led the first UK Business Delegation into Libya with similar missions into Egypt and India. |
Marcel’s focus is to champion the development of the environmental practice within MIB. Paige Thomson, Broking Director

He is experienced in the design and placing of treaty reinsurance programmes and individual facultative placements for a wide range of insurance classes including banks and financial institutions, industrial and commercial property, life, personal and medical covers, travel insurance schemes and professional risks. Paige has been closely involved in business emanating from the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Eastern Europe throughout his career. |

He spent the majority of his insurance career as an Underwriter dealing with major clients around the World. Barry has worked in both Saudi Arabia and London and joined Market Insurance Brokers in 2009. He has many years of experience in placing major commercial and industrial risks into the Lloyds and International Markets. |

He has worked on numerous major worldwide accounts and is responsible for business servicing and broking in conjunction with the account executive. This includes the production of marketing information and documentation, the placement of accounts with international insurers, the preparation of policy wordings and liaising with Client’s in respect of all the aforementioned activities. |

Caroline has worked in the London Insurance Market since 1997, having worked in an international broking house before joining MIB in October 2000. During Caroline’s time with the company she has had extensive involvement in all aspects of MIB business. As well as being responsible for the Technical Department she is also involved in various broking and productions matters. She is also responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all London Market Initiatives, included Market Reform Contracts, Electronic Claims Files and Accounting and Settlement |
Caroline heads MIB’s Technical Team and is responsible for the running and overseeing of all technical insurance issues. Stephanie Terry, Treaty Technician

She is also responsible for processing technical treaty accounts, premiums and premium adjustments and monitoring the receipt of accounts and payments. Stephanie has a vast experience of all technical aspects of broker back-up and reinsurance treaty account processing. Stephanie has worked in the reinsurance industry for nearly thirty years. She previously worked for two major London reinsurance brokers, dealing with both international and Lloyd’s clients, before joining MIB in 2007. |
Stephanie’s role is to assist the Broking Team in producing placing slips and cover notes. Sarah Shousha, Claims Technician

She has previously held a variety of finance positions in the public and private sector in London and prior to joining MIB she was a Financial Control Manager at the Export Credits Guarantee Department. Sarah speaks Arabic and French and assists her colleagues in other areas of the Company with the broking and servicing of enquiries in those languages. |
Sarah joined MIB in March 2008 and is responsible for ensuring that the service provided by our claims division is maintained at the highest level Laura Midgley, Accounts Assistant

Laura is involved in all other areas of the Finance Department and has considerable experience in cash management. Laura also assists the Finance Director with Human Resources, Information Technology and Compliance issues. Laura has worked in the finance sector of the insurance industry since 2005 following her degree in Accounting with Finance at Portsmouth University. |
Laura’s responsibilities at MIB include the management of the collection and payment of premiums/claims, from clients/underwriters, ensuring that they are collected and paid in a timely manner. Sally Abou-El-Seoud, Office Administrator

Sally is responsible for day to day office administration at MIB as well as being Personal Assistant for the CEO.
